How to find us
The ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ Institute for Translational Neuroscience is located opposite the Royal Hallamshire Hospital on Glossop Road, and shares an entrance with Barber House.
How to get here
Parking is limited and visitors are advised to travel by public transport where possible.
Train
ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ is at the heart of the railway network. Regular services operate between ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ and London St. Pancras (from just over 2 hours), Birmingham (1.25 hours), Leeds (1 hour) Manchester (1 hour) and Nottingham (1 hour). There is a direct link from the railway station to the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ Station Supertram stop via the main overbridge.
Coach
National Express operates a comprehensive coach service to most parts of the country from ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ Transport Interchange, Pond Street. The fastest service to London takes about 3.5 hours. The 40 bus runs from the Transport Interchange, and there are Supertram links via the railway station (platform 6b) and Commercial Street.
Car
Parking on campus is limited, so if you plan to drive to the University please arrange parking with us in advance. We will try and help you to find a convenient location.
We recommend that, unless you know the city well, when travelling from the north, east and south you should approach ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ by the M1 (and M18 if necessary).
- From the west and Manchester
-
- Leave the M60 (east) at junction 24 - signed ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ.
- Continue following the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ signs along the M67 and the A628 Woodhead Pass.
- Join the A616 and follow signs for M1 and ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ A616 for 10 miles.
- At the roundabout, follow signs for ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ (North) A61 and later City Centre A61 for 7 miles, passing through Grenoside and Hillsborough.
- At the ring road roundabout - junction 7 Shalesmoor - turn right onto the ring road, following signs for University of ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ and Glossop A57.
- Continue along Netherthorpe Road to the next roundabout - junction 6 - University Square.
- Take the first exit for departments in the Broad Lane and Mappin Street areas and the third exit for the main part of the campus via Western Bank.
- From the south and east

- Approach ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ on the M1 and leave the motorway at junction 33, following the city centre signs along the dual carriageway A630/A57/A61 Parkway.
- Shortly after entering the 40mph zone, turn right onto the ring road at junction 1 - Cutler's Gate.
- Continue along the ring road following signs for University of ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ, Barnsley A61 and later Glossop A57, through junctions 10, 9, 8 and 7.
- At junction 7 - Shalesmoor - turn left and continue uphill along the ring road, still following signs for University of ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ and Glossop A57.
- Continue along Netherthorpe Road to the next roundabout - junction 6 - University Square.
- Take the first exit for departments in the Broad Lane and Mappin Street areas, and the third exit for the main Western Bank part of the campus.
- From the north

- Leave the M1 at junction 36 - signed ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ (North) A61.
- At the roundabout take the third exit and follow signs for ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ (North) A61 and later City Centre A61 for 9 miles, passing through Grenoside and Hillsborough.
- At the ring road roundabout - junction 7 Shalesmoor - turn right onto the ring road following signs for University of ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ and Glossop A57.
- Continue uphill along Netherthorpe Road to the next roundabout - junction 6 University Square.
- Take the first exit for departments in the Broad Lane and Mappin Street areas, and the third exit for the Western Bank campus.
Park and Ride
You may find that Park and Ride is the most convenient way to get to the University if you are arriving in ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ by car. The University is well served by trams connected to park and ride facilities at the Meadowhall Interchange and Nunnery Square (off the A630/A57/A61 Parkway).
